Breakaway Ballroom end of year performance! My favorite moment from this performance was that Gwen performed a tango with her partner James. They had been working on it all last semester with private lessons from Trevor, but I had never seen it. Seeing it for the first time at the performance blew me away! So cool to watch your kids do cool things.
Miles finally got a chance to ask a girl to a dance. :) He asked one of his favorite friend's, Jaylee. It was a little wild; right before he was supposed to meet up with everyone for the day date, he was mucking out his cow stall and stepped on a nail. We got it cleaned out best we could and sent him on his way. They went to top golf, and then Jaylee came home to our house and to get ready here (there was a time crunch, and she's practically family anyway, so it felt totally normal:) By the time Miles got home, his foot was extremely sore and bleeding profusely (which is a good thing if you want to avoid tetanus). He hobbled his way to getting ready, and taking pictures, but then his foot hurt so badly that Jaylee had to drive them to dinner and the dance. We were lucky that our neighbor happened to have one arm crutch thing that helped Miles dance a little. Jaylee is a good sport!
Cows! Oh boy. It'd been 2 years since Miles last bought calves. Last time he bought the 4 jerseys, we got them for $50 a piece. This time, the cheapest I could find them was $650 a piece. Ouch. I thought I had asked all the right questions to ensure success, Miles bought 3 cows, and we bought one. Within 48 hours 2 calves had died and I paid a hefty vet bill. The folks that sold us the cows felt bad and gave Miles a replacement cow for free, and gave us one at a discounted price at $350. It's been a couple months now, so I can't remember how long those 2 held on, but eventually they died also. Again, after 2 more vet bills. The last vet visit we had, I asked him to level with me and tell me directly how much more money I should be willing to put into these calves, and he said none. So we crossed our fingers and continued to do everything we could to ensure the success of the remaining 2 calves. As of August of this year, they seem to be doing well and I think they'll make it. But wow, what an expensive journey of faith and hard work.
Mother's Day! And my 40th birthday! Aunt Makenna is always so sweet and sent me a sash and crown to help me feel special. Aunt Adrienne and Aunt Jenn also sent presents! Richie took me out for some shopping to buy much needed new shoes etc Mama Garner cooked us all a delicious meal. Sheerstie and I share a very close birthday, so we went and got our feet zoned together. Here's to the next decade!
The culminating event for our high school class at co-op this year was an event called "Wanderwood" where the high schoolers put on a summer camp for younger kids to raise money for our Mexico service project. They each got to choose what they would teach. Miles chose to teach kids ukulele! Gwen came to help one of the days. Benson and Davy participated in the classes! It was a huge effort, but it was really fun to see these high school kids handle everything so well!
End of year Orchestra and Percussion performance for Lindy and Benson! They did a great job! Not sure if Benson will stick with percussion, but I think Lindy is fully invested in violin. She started out in September knowing nothing about violin, and by mid year, she was asked to move to the next class up!
Gwen done gone and sewed herself a skirt! She's really entering a new phase of her sewing skills and has a new interest in taking whatever scraps she can find and sewing clothes!
The rest of May! Bensons giant hole that he dug in the pasture filled up with irrigation water, and I tried real hard not to think too hard about the germs involved here. Miles got asked to fill in again last minute for a dance date. :) Splits with missionaries, co-op activities etc
