Second Half of August 2021

Lindy completed her 6 week soccer class at the rec center. When she gets anxious, while doing something physical-she can have a hard time breathing. So we had to have some talks about it being ok to take breaks to catch her breath, and that this experience is for fun-not to out-pace everyone. Turns out, she's got a real competitive streak in her and if she was put on the losing team during a scrimmage-she would run herself nearly to death to bring home a victory and then get really frustrated if they lost. :) She's a fantastic little runner and a precise and careful soccer player.

We officially started school! Miles is in 7th grade, Gwen is in 5th, Lindy is in 2nd, Benson is in preschool/Kindergarten, and Davy is in Mom school. :) Benson's birthday is September 1, which is the exact cut off date for kindergarten. So technically, he's old enough- but if we were public schooling, I'd probably hold him back just to give him extra time to mature and be a kid. So this year, we're mostly doing preschool things and letting him take the lead. Also, I can't believe I have a middle schooler. When did that happen?? We like to ease into things. So for the first week or so, things are really low-key when it comes to official school. It's better for everyone that way. :) Back to School breakfast means their cereal of choice and little presents.

Still soaking up the warm weather. Love, love, love, the flexibility of homeschool. Lauren and I weren't ready to officially start science yet, so we opted for a park/splash pad day.

Lindy got to go to a fun birthday party for a cute girl in her primary class.

Grandma Garner came up for a day or two to help us with massive amount of canning! She brought up boxes and boxes of produce that they grew themselves and then she helped me can. She is the energizer bunny and never stops! So school for those 2 days was home ec! Everyone pitched in and we got all of our salsa, peaches and pears done. While she as here, Gwen and Lindy also treated us to another garage dance recital. :) I hope they never stop doing this.

Homesteading Life- Trying to get a mouse out of our house (and failing),  kitties enjoying their daily ration of fresh goat's milk, an eggplant with a face, weeding in the garden, a new pig feeder, and farmer Benson taking care of his meat birds.
