Trying new recipes in the kitchen. Banana muffins and kefir smoothies for lunch!
Slaughter day at the farm. :) Richie insisted we come check out the process. The girls wouldn't even go in the room. :) Miles helped package the chicken feet.
Mommy and Gwen date before school starts. She was so excited to get her chance to go check out the new park. We went in the evening when so many people weren't there and had a blast. She can climb and conquer any playground apparatus!
We had a Garner get-together at Aunt Laura's house. All but 1 of Grandpa Garner's siblings were there. Great Grandma Garner was supposed to be in attendance, but wasn't feeling well when the day came. It was such a nice evening with almost everyone!
Miles and Mommy date to Nickel Mania! He was elated to be there and had plans for every single nickel in our cup. After he picked out his prizes, we took our picture in one of those photo booths that I usually always say no to. :) It was over-priced, but worth it.
Got the school room all ready for the new year! (It never looks this clean during the year, ha!)
Our first day back to school was the day of the solar eclipse. I wasn't overly excited about the whole thing, but we made a little viewer out of paper and then our neighbors invited us to their driveway to share their glasses and cereal box viewers. It was cooler than I thought it was going to be. My favorite part was the cool shadow shapes!
Back to School FHE. We listened to a talk from President Monson (since it was his birthday) and made ice cream in bags. The point of the whole thing was to prove that even though it was hard work to make the ice cream, it was worth it because it tasted so yummy! Just as it will be with school this year. It will be hard work, but the knowledge we gain and how much we grow will be worth it.
My helpers snapping beans with me. :)
Benson's first animal noise was a chicken. He still doesn't do it on command, but he is definitely most aware of chickens-as far as animals go. It cracked me up when we were at the library and he was pulling DVD's off the shelves, but he stopped when he got to this picture of a chicken and made his chicken noise. Thinking it might just be a coincidence, I put the DVD's back on the shelf. He pulled them out, again stopping at the chicken one and making the same noise. :)
Sometimes we get ambitious and do a lot of juicing. I can't remember what we put in this juice, but isn't it pretty? I thought the layers were cool.
The kids have been dying to go to this new park. I took Lindy, and Gwen separately, but not everyone together and not in swimming suits to play in the water. I told them that if they worked hard the first week of school, we would go on Friday. Another perk of homeschooling is that we can utilize things that are usually busy, while all the other kids are in school. :) There were other kids to play with, but it wasn't crazy. We had so much fun!
Lindy cleans in style. :)
Canning season is in full swing!
Makenna turned 30, and celebrated by throwing herself a Marry Poppins party! It was such a fun night. Everything was beautiful, delicious, and on theme. The kids cried when it was time to leave; the true sign of a good party!
