First bit of June

Ah June- We've been waiting (impatiently) for you, and are so glad you're finally here. I told the kids, way back in January, that our first day of Summer would be June 1st. Miles has been anxiously watching the calendar. I told them that on our first day of Summer vacation, it would be "a kid's day". They could do whatever they wanted, for one entire day! They could stay in jammies and play video games all day if they wanted. I didn't care how much screen time they had! I was secretly hoping that they would over-dose on screen time and get it all out of their systems, but I don't think my plan worked. That morning we had (banana) ice cream for breakfast to start "kid's day" with a bang. They jumped from one screen to another all day, even when friends came over. I tried not to care, but I felt like I was going nuts by the end of the day.

Gwen "graduated" from joy school. :) We decided not to do a formal ceremony or anything this year, since all of us moms were feeling burned out. So, I arranged for us all to go to the library puppet show "Little Red Riding Hood", and then we played at the park afterward to celebrate. I made all of the graduates special treats that were supposed to look like a graduation cap and a diploma. (Although, by they way Gwen is using her diploma you'd think it was a cigar.) She is really sad to not be going anymore. She really loved that social time with her friends for the past two years. I told her we'll have plenty of play dates for sure.

We've been enjoying lots of time outside! Here's Lindy with Skunky (one of our favorites). Also pictured is another day at the splash pad. We met a friend there for lunch and played for hours. So glorious.

Our dear friends from Idaho, the Fogles, had a wedding to attend here in SLC, so they stayed with us! We love it when the stars align like that. They added another cute kid to their bunch since the last time we had seen them! So over the weekend, the head count was 4 adults and 8 kids under age 7. :) It's like the house was constantly buzzing with activity. Our kids get along SO well. It was so fun to watch them interact. Both Miles and Aiden are sporting toothless grins, Gwen and Kennedy kept each other laughing with knock-knock jokes FOREVER, and Lindy and Emma actually got along well and shared toys (for the most part! Which is outstanding considering their ages). Their other two didn't have play mates their age, but Oliver joined right in with everyone and baby Genna charmed everyone. It was so fun to have friends to socialize with. Lauren also home schools, so there is always plenty to talk about. Love them.

Love summer vacation! Always look forward to your posts; we may or may not have checked a half-dozen times in the last few days to see if you'd written anything :)
