Miles took a massive bubble bath randomly one night, and a week or so later, Gwen followed suit. :)
Miles said he was feeling sick one day. I never know how seriously I should take their whining when it comes to being sick. I made him spend a good amount of time laying down in his room. I walked by and caught this scene. Ginger is a pretty cuddly dog, and she and Miles seem to have a special connection. It made my heart feel good that even though I was lacking in the sympathy department, at least the dog could help out. :)
Richie and I got to go on an actual date! Thanksgiving point always does a swing dance at the end of the tulip festival with a live band. It's such a treat to get out and dance with each other! My original swing shoes bit the dust last year, so I wore some street shoes I thought would work. They didn't! After half a song, I kicked them off and danced the rest of the night in socks. My feet were a little sore the next day, and those socks were toast, but it was totally worth it. I will NEVER get tired of people coming up to us and saying things like, "Wow you really know what you're doing!" I can hardly take any of the credit, Richie is the brains behind it all, but it's still really flattering. My favorite though was an older woman who came up to us at the end, grabbed our hands and with tears in her eyes said, "Bless you two! Are you married? Do you have kids? My husband and I used to go dancing all of the time. He died 13 years ago and I miss dancing with him so much. When I saw you two do the Charleston it brought back such great memories. Bless you!" She left and I told Richie, "That's me in x amount of years!"
Some days, the warm weather is so tempting after a cold spring that you rush to get your school work done, just so you can snag a pizza and eat it at the park! The weather was just too good to pass up. My favorite part about this outing was listening to Miles interact with other kids. He called out to a group of boys running around, "Does anyone want to play tag?" They didn't respond. I think they just didn't hear him. But Miles says to himself, 'I guess not!" And then he gets closer to their group, and just starts playing what they're playing. Some sickening, spinner toy on the playground. He interjects himself with, "Wow you guys are going fast! Good job! Here let me help you!" And within minutes, they were running around like best friends. :) That kid....Meanwhile, Gwen and Lindy were my mini-mamas to Benson. :)
Helping Grandma and Grandpa take down their gigantic green house for the summer. We tried to convince them it would make the worlds best slip-n-slide, but they wouldn't go for it. :)
It was warm enough the other day that our neighbor turned on her sprinklers for the kids to run through. They had such a blast! These same neighbors also invited us to watch "The Greatest Showman" with them one night. The girls lasted about half way through and then just played downstairs. Miles took it all in though. :)
Izzy sent Gwen some of her old pointe shoes as a bleated birthday present. Gwen has been in heaven ever since!!
Homeschool stuff: Gwen making cookies for her math lesson, Lindy's joy school at our house this month (finding coins in the cloud dough, playing store, it was all about money), Homeschool group at Makenna's (building boats and target practice-to tie into the Spains war with England), Grinding out the book work-it's the end of the year, we're all just doing our best to cross the finish line, and making "Every Color Soup"- we read this book about every color soup and it had a recipe in the back, so they all helped me cook it during school time.
A few favorite kid selfies lately:
Makenna and the boys came over for a little sleepover last Friday because Ian is out of town. We met at Gardener Village to check out the fairy display/hunt they do every year. I never get over how incredibly charming Gardener Village is! It's magical! Even with the cold weather it was fun to hunt for fairies with cousins. We came back to our house for dinner and dessert and watched "Davy Crockett" because we just learned a bit about him in history. In the morning most of the kids went over to Grandma's house to go work on their property for her Mother's Day present. I stayed home with a sick Gwen and a "wouldn't be any help" Benson, and they got some things done. It was a fun little addition to our otherwise dull weekend.
Mother's Day: Richie and the kids royally spoiled me. He ordered me clothes and got the kids all excited about it-standing guard so I wouldn't peek in the box, "secretly" wrapping it etc. Come Sunday morning, they were bursting with excitement for me to open it! They made me breakfast in bed (crepes!) and Richie let me take a bath before church. So luxurious! He worked hard to take on the majority of mundane tasks for me during the day including staying out in the hall with Benson during church, fixing part of dinner, etc. Yep, I got a good one. My favorite part about his generosity on Mother's Day, and every day, is that my kids get a front row seat. My girls will know what kind of guy to look for, and my boys will know how to treat their ladies. We went to Mom and Dad's for dinner, and Uncle Ross was like a celebrity :) He took them on wagon rides and played jump Jim Crow all evening. It was a fantastic day.
