Usually, our weekends are pretty boring. We make waffles, we do our chores....and then figure out how to spend the rest of our Saturday. This weekend was special because on Friday we had our "Matilda" party since Dad and the kids finished reading that book last month and Jacob got to come party with us! After he got home, the kids were dying for more time with him so we decided to do a sleepover. They played and snuggled and and after the kids fell asleep, Richie and I just got to sit and talk with him. What a stellar guy! Something that I love about our situation (proximity to family etc) is that my kids get to know their aunts and uncles up here really well. I love my aunts and uncles, but our relationship is distant when compared to what my kids have with theirs. They take an active roll in my kids' lives and that makes me feel really loved. Uncle Jacob has been like a celebrity around here since he got back. The kids were in heaven!
Saturday we rushed through our waffles and chores so that we could go to "the dragon pool!" It's just the South Jordan rec center, but there is a small alligator slide and the kids thought it was a dragon the first time we went...hence "the dragon pool". We did the same thing last year and it was such a huge hit, we thought we'd do it again. The kids worked all summer filling up there behavior charts. They got stickers for keeping their pants dry during the day, during the night, staying in their rooms at quiet time or bed time, being cheerfully obedient, using their manners, and being a "bucket filler" (someone who makes other people happy). Gwen is better about keeping her pants dry during the day, and Miles is getting pretty good at keeping his pants dry at night (Hallelujah!). Thank you chart and stickers! :) We spent a good chunk of time there and Lindy loved her first time at a pool. The kids were so tired afterward, Gwen actually napped!
That night, we had friends in the ward over for dinner and then right after the kid's bedtime, my old college roommate came by to practice giving facials on me! (Mary Kay) It was so fun to catch up with her. I like my routine, but sometimes it's nice to just really shake it up.

The Rest of October
Homeschooling
We had so much fun homeschooling this month. Our printer ran out of ink and so by necessity we did a lot less worksheets. I still like some thrown in here and there, but it was a good thing in the long run. We were more laid back this month, which makes me a little antsy, but they still seemed to pick up on everything we needed to learn. Whew! Miles is complaining about headaches when he tries to read so we might have to get his eyes checked out. Here's a random picture from the month, but I should hopefully have the school post up later today on our homeschool blog.
Window Painting
I handed out a card last year to a pizza place and never heard from them until now! I was so excited to paint their windows. They are all right on ground level so no climbing up and down ladders, they are on a busy street and sure to get some good attention, and it was the most I have ever been paid to paint windows. He's having me come back to do Christmas style ones too. :) Again, more pictures on the window blog.
First fire of the season! Like a kid in a candy store. We've all been loving our cozy mornings and evenings by the fire.
No, this isn't Halloween. Just your every day trip to the dentist. :) The kids were playing dress up before we left, and once it was time to go, we didn't have time to change. No biggie right?
"Helping" dad put more compost on the garden. Getting it all ready for next year!
Uncle Jacob came back from his mission in Washington! We were so excited to see him at the airport!!
Apple Picking and Applesauce making. Lots of pictures here!

All Things Halloween
Ward Trunk or Treat
Homeschool Halloween Party
Joy School Halloween Party
Actual Halloween
Working on his "smoulder" :) He had all the ladies swooning.
The whole "Tangled" gang: Flynn Rider, Rapunzel and Pascal. :)
On Halloween we stopped by dad's work to trick or treat to his class (always a fun time), and then that night we trick or treated around our street, headed up to Tyler and Sheree's for more trick or treating and dinner, then headed home. I think next year, we'll just stay close to home. I'm tired!
Whew! Now on to one of my favorite Holidays: Thanksgiving!
